Very nice store for a Safeway. Has more of a specialty store feel and a wider array of different items. Very friendly, helpful staff as well.
Used to LOVE Safeway Sandwiches. They were amazing. I have not had one in years since the Safeway in Courtenay closed, so we bought some at this store when in town on the weekend. The Ciabatta bread was incredibly dry, the tomatoes on the sandwich were terrible (hard to believe considering that Tomatoes are in season locally now and awesome everywhere... where did they find these terrible tomatoes)? Seems like way less meat on the sandwich then before. Regretted getting food there. $40 for terrible sandwiches. Should have gone to Subway - cheaper and better.Is this what happens when Sobeys buys out businesses, they go straight downhill?
After the renovations, this Safeway is now very open and now has a sushi bar. In addition it has a rather large seating area after the checkout so you can sit down and eat your food. The layout is WAY different then it used to be but it looks WAY better. Also, Safeway prices have gotten better lately so that's a plus as well. There are plenty of checkout counters open and a self checkout. The service it get here is great as well!
Excellent butcher. Can get custom cut steaks to whatever thickness. good quality. Decent price. Nice shopping atmosphere.
A clean neat place. Ample easy parking. Not a huge emporium with thousands of items I never buy. Customers in a store like this are generally well behaved, too. Near a bank and a wild-bird store.
