This is a fantastic place to go to learn about early BC history. There is an interpretive centre, staff in 19th century garb, and a variety of interactive displays and activities to enjoy.

Very well done full scale museum with enthusiastic and friendly staff. This is well oriented to kids and can keep them entertained almost all day with up to date high tech exhibits (a number of which were out of service or did not function very well) as well as the lower tech ones like barrel making, continuous blacksmith demonstrations, a small animal farm and demonstration garden. It is set up just like the old fort was 150 years ago and one building from that era still exists. We also stayed overnight in one of their oTENTic tent/cabins and it was a very good experience except that we were not warned of the following situations beforehand: we could not have a fire pit experience because of the fire restrictions, the cafe and washrooms (and presumably showers..) were under renovation and were not available and potentially the biggest spoiler of all is not mentioned until the individual briefing. And that is that the main CN rail lines run right past the fort and the trains run frequently all night so it sounds like you are sleeping right on the tracks! They do supply ear plugs because the tent definitely does not block any of the noise and the trains blow their extremely load horns several times right by the fort, even at night, because there are several level crossings they must sound warnings for. We were very tired from playing all over the fort all day though so we did actually sleep pretty well, all things considered except that I think they should let people know when they book what the situation is really like.
It's like jumping into a time machine! This place is so fun and packs so much information into a truly amazing experience. From the period-correct characters you meet to the historic fort itself, the place is filled to the brim with knowledge and fun. I highly recommend the guided audio tour. That alongside speaking with the knowledge of the on-site staff makes for a great visit. It was a little rainy when we went, but they still had multiple fires going, even outside! And it stopped raining long enough for us the meet and pet the sheep and pan for gold!
Totally recommend renting the audio speaker so you can play it while you walk around. You have to hold the speaker to your ear so each person in the group would need one. If you arrive at the right time, there may even be fresh bannock! It was fun to envision what life was like back then.
